We have always fed ours twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. With our next dog, my fiance would like to introduce leaving food out. I'm not sure how I feel about it. What are your opinions on leaving food out?

I think it depends on the dog. I've had dogs that if you left food out, they would eat it until it is gone no matter how much is in there. One of my dogs would eat so much she would be sick and then eat some more! Then I have others that eat when they are hungry and would have food in the bowl most of the day. This isn't quite the same, but I did have a friend that had a cat that would eat anything and everything in sight. His meals were initially measured. Then my friend thought that if he just left food out all of the time, he wouldn't feel like he had to scarf it before it disappeared. After a few months of that, the cat went from about 10 lbs to 20 lbs and not long after was diagnosed with diabetes and required regular insulin shots.

Those are all very good points. It stands to reason it would have to be on a case by case basis to see what your dog responds best to
