My dog has a cut on her foot and ive always heard it's best to let the dog tend to it. Is that true?

Not true. Keep it clean with a saline solution. You could also use a diluted mild soap. You won't want to apply any chemical based salve as the dog may ingest it but you can apply coconut oil on the wound. If your dog won't chew it off, you can apply a gauze pad over the wound and take it a step beyond by covering the paw with a sock. I know my dog wouldn't leave a bandage or sock on her paw but some dog's might be ok with it.
