I'm curious what everyone's motivations were for adopting / rescuing over getting a puppy from a breeder?

I chose to adopt because I know how many are in need. We have so many dogs abandoned where I live and it breaks my heart.

I prefer to adopt or rescue a dog because they believe in giving a home to a dog in need. Adopting a dog from a shelter or rescue organization can provide a second chance to a dog that may have been abandoned, abused, or surrendered by their previous owner.

Almost all of my pets that I've ever had have been rescued. They have either been abandoned, strays, surrendered to the pound, or have suffered a medical emergency. I can't close my eyes and pretend not to see they need someone to love and care for them. If I were looking for another pet, I would chose the pound over a breeder to give that animal a loving home. There are also some purebred dogs that have a higher risk of certain health ailments which increases if the breeders don't follow ethical standards.
With that being said, I did get my current pup, a Husky, from a breeder that I know. I chose to go to a breeder this time because I wanted a specific breed known for their energy and unique personality. I also wanted a young puppy that would grow up with the other pets and live harmoniously and it worked out according to plan!
