Reluctance to go for a walk
My Havenese fights me every time he has to go out for a walk. He is 5 now but from 10 weeks to 3.5 years we had an older dog who he would go outside with. When the older dog could no longer do the walks I would put them both in my dog trailer and walk them through the neighborhood. Fast forward to almost 2 years since my older girl died and my Cooper is reluctant to go outside for a walk. I do get him to go across the street to do hiis business by the preserve. But then once done he turns for home. We have a fenced yard he goes to willingly. He loves to ride in the car. But walk the neighborhood. No way. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hello Susan! Yes, I agree. Maybe take him somewhere new to explore over the weekend or when you have time to take him. Maybe even somewhere where you can go on a short hike or longer if the both of you are up to it!

Have you tried borrowing another dog to take out on a walk with Cooper? I'm wondering if that might encourage him to want to go. Oh, and a pocket full of treats! SJ

Hi Susan, just like us, our dogs have their own personalities, likes, and dislikes. Maybe your dog just doesn't like walking around the neighborhood/ being on a lead. How is he off the lead? You said he enjoys being in the car. Maybe try drive him somewhere new such as a field where he can socialize with other dogs
