Poorly treated dogs
Last night we found two dogs walking down our road, they seemed like pitbull cross boxers. We managed to get them into our yard and gave them some water and food - they were starving and very timid. They slept in our garage but barked throughout the night. We posted on Facebook and managed to find out that the owner lived a block away. We got the dogs in the car and drove to his house to drop them off. The dogs didn't greet him at all and didn't seem happy to be home, the one even had its tail between its legs... It was heartbreaking. After we left I felt really uneasy about the situation and suggested that we call animal rescue to come and investigate the situation - my partner thinks that animal rescue would see that they have food and a place to sleep and wouldn't intervene... What are your thoughts on this situation?

You did the right thing but I completely understand being uneasy about it. I don't know if it is the popular thing to do but I would probably call. If the dogs aren't being mistreated then the only thing the owner suffers is an annoyance. But if the dogs are being mistreated, the dogs could get taken away. The question then is, where would they be transported? Would it be a no-kill shelter? Or could the place they get transported to be a death sentence if they don't get adopted? If they get taken to a no-kill shelter, I say roll the dice and make the call to ensure the dogs are being properly cared for..

It could be that they knew they would be in trouble? I know if my dog does something she isn’t supposed to she will put her tail between her legs and is visibly upset. She’s never been mistreated but maybe this could be the case with these dogs as well.
