One thing you wish you knew before adopting a dog
What’s one thing you wish you knew before you adopted your dog? Mine is that I wish o knew more about my dogs history. She was abused and didn’t find this out until later onto having her for a few months. It made so much sense when I found out from the lady that helped me adopt my dog. This would have helped with her training to know these types of things.

That's so sad for your poor dog, but lucky that you were able to adopt him. I think for me, I wasn't really aware of just how much commitment a dog was. That sounds a bit silly, but the fact your entire life will change the second you bring the dog home as you can no longer go out for entire days without planning it beforehand etc. That came as a bit of a shock. But I wouldn't change it for the world.

We adopted a german shepard/husky/border colllie 12 years ago, and I think I have to agree with you. She was so skittish and it would have been really helpful to have known where all those traumas came from.

Honestly, I can't think of anything I wish I would have known. Getting to know each other, learning to work together, and finding out the quirks has been part of the journey. I can definitely see how knowing an animal was abused would be helpful information. Maybe that information isn't offered upfront out of fear that someone wouldn't take them?
