neutering/spaying

How soon do you neutering/spaying your dogs after getting them? What are your thoughts on this?

I try to do it immediately so there is no chance for having or making any more pups. The shelter where I live gives you a voucher to get it done and schedules the appointment for you

That's great that your local shelter does that!

Where I live, if you rescue a pup from the animal shelter, they are fixed before you can pick them up. If I weren't getting a dog from the shelter, I would follow the recommended guidelines for the breed, health, and the age of the dog, but generally when they are around 4-6 months. If they were already an adult dog, I would get them fixed after the vet has checked them out and cleared them to have it done. Beyond helping to control the animal population, I think it is very important to spay and neuter pets for the health and behavioral benefits.
