Large breed health

Is it true that most large breeds end up having hop problems? What do you recommend to help prevent this??

In my experience, large dogs almost always have hip problems when they approach their senior years. I had an Alaskan Malamute that eventually had to be put down at 12 years old. My Rottweiler developed hip problems somewhere around the same age. We were able to help her with a daily dosage of a prescription medicine which made her think she was a puppy again! She lived to be 15 years old. She would have probably lived longer since her health and organs were all great but her bones had deteriorated so much that she broke her front leg beyond repair and her quality of life was not good. We feed our dogs a high quality food. There are some supplements available but the vet should be the one to recommend what is best for your dog.
