Do you need a professional groomer?
I own a yorkie and a schnauzer cross miniature poodle. My dog groomer has just moved away and I'm genuinely quite tempted to try to give them a tidy up myself. Is this a terrible idea? Any advice from someone who grooms their own dogs?

I've tried to do a thorough grooming on my husky but between her hating it and me not having all of the professional equipment to do a proper and efficient job, it just isn't feasible for me to do it myself. I just try to maintain the grooming in between the professionals handling it!

Hi Katy! I groom my dogs by myself occasionally and it is a great way to save some money and to bond with my dogs but there are important basic tips about grooming especially if it is your first time. First is to buy the right tools for grooming like combs, clippers, scissors & etc. Also try styptic powder if ever you accidentally nick your dogs skin while cutting their nails. Start grooming them by giving them a bath first and remember to take it slow so that you don't stress out your dogs (speaking from personal experience). Also show your dogs support and appreciation while grooming like giving them treats and praising them. I hope this would help you in grooming your dogs :)

Not a bad idea at all! I actually always would bath my dogs and give their fur a trim! I prefer not to do their nails because there is a chance of cutting into the nerve. So every few months we'd just take them to the pet shop to get their nails clipped. Good luck!
