Until a dog is fully trained to not chew on certain items, I would recommend treating them like a toddler... keep the items away or keep them away from the items. To train them, consistently correct improper chewing by telling the dog no and substitute the item with something appropriate to chew on. When they do chew on the proper items, praise them. I have experienced dogs that have a very hard time learning not to chew on certain things. When I had those dogs, I made sure their go to forbidden items were not accessible.

I never thought of treating them like toddlers. I guess I'm going to have to put her in a crate when I can't watch her, at least til I get her fully trained because hard as I try she always manages to find one to chew on
