Black nails

When clipping nails of a dog that are all black how do you determine where the quick is?

Joseph Solano

When dealing with black nails in dogs, it can be challenging to visually determine the location of the quick, which is the sensitive part of the nail containing blood vessels. One approach is to trim a small amount of the nail at a time, avoiding cutting too close to the quick. If you are unsure or uncomfortable, it's best to consult a professional groomer or veterinarian who can provide guidance and ensure a safe and comfortable nail trimming experience for your dog.

I agree with @jorosolano. Small trims at a time would be best to avoid cutting into the nerve

I'm so nervous about that too! Most of my dog's nails are light colored but she does have a couple that are darker and harder to see. I will only do minor trims myself and will take her to a professional for more thorough grooming of the nails.
