Adoption

Have you ever adopted an animal for a child for their gilt? I was just wondering how it worked out. My child is 14 and asking for a puppy as a gift. I'm just seeing what the pros and cons from the perspective of people who have done this

Hi! Well, adopting an animal for a child can have its pros and cons. On the positive side, it can teach responsibility, empathy, and provide companionship. However, it's important to consider the long-term commitment and ensure the child is ready for the responsibilities of pet ownership, including care, training, and financial aspects.

not personally but my friends have. after the initial excitement has worn off, the kids have all lost interest and they've been left to look after the dog, so to be honest I'd only think about it if you're equally as interested in having a dog, just in case

I've never given an animal as a gift, other than additional fish to an existing aquarium. Yes, a pet is a gift in a sense but more importantly a pet is a responsibility, a lifelong commitment. It just doesn't make sense to me, especially if there isn't a discussion beforehand. They need to be fully aware of the commitment, the responsibility, and completely willing to take the good (playing and affection) with the bad (responsibilities and sacrifices).
